If you follow the current lifestyle trends of the Silicon Valley Startup crowd, you may have heard the term nootropics being thrown around recently.

What are nootropics?

To put it in simple words, nootropics are supplements/drugs which are created to improve cognitive functioning. This term was used for the first time by Professor Corneliu E. Giurega in 1972. (1) The vast majority of nootropics found in the market are focused on providing long-lasting intellectual development and enhancement and in most cases, they don’t lead to any side effects (or mild side effects). Improved memory, attention, awareness, behavior, and determination are some of the benefits of using nootropics. In addition, these supplements can improve physical and overall health too.

As we said before, there are many people who are not really sure what nootropics are and what they do. Additionally, many of them are skeptical about their effects. What’s important to understand is that these supplements won’t make the user a genius or do wonders in your brain. However, they can help the user unleash their true potential and enhance their cognitive functions.

How do nootropics work?

The human mind consists of a huge number of synapses and neurotransmitters. These specific structures are managing the human mind and the person’s mood, retention, ability to focus and mental clarity. By reducing a number of specific chemicals in the brain or by increasing their level, one can optimize the work of the neurotransmitters and enhance the flow of information in the brain. As a result of that, you can expect improved cognitive performance. The fact that they are protecting the neurons means that they are slowing down the process of aging and keeping people safe from age-related mental problems.

Many nootropics increase blood flow to the brain. Blood takes care of many processes in the body, but its main purpose is to deliver oxygen to cells throughout the body. If the level of oxygen and blood in the brain is increased, some of the primary brain functions like focus and memory are improved too.

Finally, there are some nootropics that are able to boost the production of neurotransmitters. These structures are fighting the negative consequences of the natural process of aging. Taking nootropics is one way to slow down this process.

Are nootropics healthy to take?

When people are thinking about using these supplements, they usually have the same question – are they healthy to take? It is worth mentioning that nootropics are perfectly safe and don’t contain any toxic elements. There are many clinical trials that can confirm this fact. But, in order to stay safe and avoid any potential side effects, it would be best to stick to the manufacturer’s guidelines and take them responsibly. In addition, it’s a good idea to use nootropic brands that have proven to be healthy and safe.

How do nootropics affect mental health?

There are many different nootropics available on the market and each of them has different characteristics. This means that they have a different impact on our mental health. For instance, there are some nootropics that are focused on fighting the symptoms of fatigue by inhibiting brain receptors or enhancing the process of energy synthesis.

Many nootropics help our memory. This is an excellent choice for people of all ages. In addition, they can help people prevent dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s disease. There are also nootropics that are good for our focus. They enhance alertness and focus and provide brain clarity too. Finally, there are some nootropics that promise mood enhancement and improved creativity and reasoning. Most of the popular nootropics available today have multiple positive effects on our mental health.

The most popular nootropics today

The list of popular nootropics is very long. For instance, many people use Piracetam, which is great for the brain metabolism and enhances neuro-electrical functions. Aniracetam is another popular nootropic which improves creativity and alertness. Vinpocetine is usually used by people who want to improve their attention, memory and optimize their brain in general. Pyritinol, L-tyrosine, choline, L-huperzine, DHA, and DMAA are some other examples of popular nootropics.

This could be good since I am getting older and my memory isn’t what it use to be. The only thing is I worry about side effects. Are there any side effects that are listed to this that you could share with us? Thanks.

I never heard of nootropics until now. It sounds pretty fantastic with hardly any side effects. There has been a few of these kinds of products hitting the market lately. Is it anything like Adderall? Where can I get some? Probably ver expensive right?

You can find various brands of nootropics on Amazon or at drugstores, there are a range of prices out there. The effects could be something like Adderall but probably not as noticeable in the short term.
